Cancellation and Nonrenewal
Knowing all the factors of home insurance is something that you are going to have to accomplish if you want to make sure that everything works out perfectly for you. That is why we want to take some time and go over a few other terms that you might not know much about. These terms are cancellation and nonrenewal. Make sure that you know how these are going to work and how you want to use them to your advantage. Going into this process unprepared is not something that will result in the most positive experience for you. Always ask questions if you have them and get the best answers that will help you out.
Cancellation
Obviously we all know what cancellation means. The important part is knowing how it will come into play with your home insurance. Your home insurance company cannot cancel your insurance policy if it has been in force for more then 60 days. There are a few exceptions to the rule though. If you fail to pay the premium then you are at risk of having the policy cancelled. You might have a few chances, but you do not want to risk it. Also, if you have committed fraud or misrepresented yourself on the application then you can have your insurance policy dropped. This is why you need to be honest at all times while filing for home insurance.
Nonrenewal
Nonrenewal is different from cancellation. Both you and the insurance company have the option to not renew the home insurance policy after it has expired. Different states have rules regarding this, but you will be informed within a certain amount of days if your insurance company does not renew your policy. They will also have to give you a valid reasoning for not doing so. If you do not think that it is fair then you can challenge them on it. This could happen to you if you raise the risk that you have towards the insurance company. This is why you need to make sure that you always play by the rules.
Play By the Rules
Basically all this comes back to one point. Play by the rules and everything will work out just fine. If you have questions or you want to make sure that you are doing alright then do not be afraid to ask. These days it seems like home insurance policies are rising in price. It would be a shame to lose a good policy because you did not pay attention and then have to get another policy that you are not a fan of. Make sure you know what is expected of you and follow through with it. Building a good relationship with your home insurance company will lead to better opportunities down the road for you.
